We made this silver belt buckle with a family crest. We used a combination of techniques including handcarving, computerised engraving machine and a lot of hand work – we made 5 in total and each silver buckle weighed 150 grams. The fittings at the back – screws and clasps were all handmade and in silver. The buckle is made up in 9 parts. The custom engraving used a Gravograph engraving machine and Artcam software. The family crest was given as a sketch and was traced using Corel Draw. The hardest part was rolling out good silver plate – it was exactly the same width as my automatic rollers. We melted the silver in an electric kiln and then rolled it out. The artwork took about 16 hours to do and the models about 7 hours of engraving. The parts were soldered and screwed togther – all the fittings were handmade – including the silver screws taht hold the buckle together.
We can pretty much make up any kind of silver buckle, whether that be with a family crest, or a company logo – or just something that appeals to you like a dragon buckle. Custom engraving can be done on rings – in titanium , silver or gold.
